Every year, as soon as the first chills of autumn hit, thousands of motorcycles disappear under a cover. Falling temperatures, more frequent rain, slippery roads... For many, the season draws to a close with the warmer weather. However, this transition doesn't necessarily mean stopping. More and more riders are choosing to adapt their riding rather than interrupt it.

Extending the season isn't a matter of audacity, but of foresight. Proper equipment, relaxed riding, a well-prepared machine: the right reflexes are well-known, but they still need to be applied. Lined jacket, waterproof boots, insulated gloves, or underwear... comfort, like safety, often comes down to the details.

Equip yourself seriously

It all starts with the hands, the first victims of the icy wind. As soon as temperatures drop below 10°C, lightweight gloves become unsuitable. Opt for winter models with an insulating lining, a waterproof membrane, and a long cuff to cover the wrists.

Feet, on the other hand, have to deal with the cold and wet. In the rain or wind, classic boots quickly reach their limits. The ideal is to choose high boots , made of treated leather or technical textile, with rigid reinforcements in sensitive areas, a non-slip sole, and above all a waterproof-breathable membrane.

The torso must be rigorously protected. A sturdy, breathable textile jacket equipped with a removable thermal lining and approved protectors remains the most versatile option. The goal is twofold: to cut the wind and retain body heat without compromising freedom of movement.

Too often overlooked, trousers must also be designed for cold conditions. Reinforced jeans are not enough. You should opt for lined, waterproof trousers equipped with knee and hip protectors. Textile models with a waterproof-breathable membrane are particularly suitable.

And beneath this armor, a discreet but decisive layer: underwear . A true ally for cool outings, it slips under a jacket or pants to add effective insulation without bulk. Breathable, warm, and comfortable, it helps maintain a stable body temperature, even after several hours on the road.

Adopt appropriate behavior

From the first cool autumn days, performance and safety depend as much on your equipment as on your driving. Sports tires, which are ineffective at low temperatures, must give way to models more suited to cold weather. Tire pressure should be checked frequently, as it drops with the temperature.

On the road, the key is smoothness. Acceleration, braking, and cornering must be more gradual to avoid unpleasant surprises, especially on wet roads or those covered in dead leaves.

Take care of your visibility

With the days getting shorter and the morning fog setting in, seeing and being seen becomes vital. To ride with peace of mind, it's essential to ensure your motorcycle's lighting is in perfect condition: clean optics, working bulbs, and a well-adjusted beam pattern. Adding additional headlights can improve your visibility in poor conditions.

On the helmet side, a clear visor and an anti-fog insert are highly recommended to prevent sudden vision loss. Also consider adding reflective elements to your gear: a simple visible stripe can make all the difference at dusk.

The season doesn't end with summer. It changes pace. Riding in the heart of fall or as winter approaches is no longer reserved for a few intrepid souls. Today, it's an accessible activity, provided you equip yourself intelligently and rethink certain routines. A pair of technical gloves, a lined jacket, wind-resistant pants, or those underwear you slip on discreetly under your outer layer: so many choices that, when combined, make all the difference.
