FQMHR 2025 Trails: the 4 new mandatory parts

Want to tame the trails on a motocross bike? Not so fast ! Before you hit the gas in the great outdoors, it's best to make sure your motocross bike meets certain requirements. Rear brake light, speedometer, left mirror... there are a few boxes to check. Here's a rundown of everything you absolutely must install to avoid fines and enjoy the season to the fullest.

While the passion for off-roading is attracting more and more enthusiasts in Quebec, it doesn't exempt you from respecting a well-defined regulatory framework. Summer is here, the engines are warming up, and the FQMHR trails are getting ready to welcome a new wave of motocross enthusiasts. But beware: this year, the Fédération Québécoise des Motos Hors Route (FQMHR) is tightening the rules, and any motorcyclist who wants to take advantage of theit trails will have to make sure their machine is properly equipped.

No more half-measures or "it'll all be the same": the patrols are watching, (and so are the fines). There's no question of setting off on an adventure without a minimum of equipment. Here are the four new mandatory parts that we've grouped together for you, to help you prepare your motocross bike in accordance with the FQMHR requirements... and hit the trails in complete compliance, all summer long.

The 4 new features

Because we know no one wants to get knocked off a trail or receive a hefty fine in the middle of summer, we've done the work for you. No need to dig through the rules or wait to get pulled over by the patrol: here are the four mandatory additions to have on your motocross bike:

The white headlight at the front

Among the requirements for using FQMHR trails in the summer of 2025, a white headlight is a must. Whether day or night, this headlight must be on at all times. Far from being a mere formality, it plays a crucial role in safety, allowing other users to quickly spot approaching vehicles. And be careful: this requirement makes no distinction between recent or older models; all off-road vehicles are affected.

A working rear brake light

Too often overlooked, the brake light allows for better communication between trail users. The light must be automatically activated each time the brake lever or pedal is pressed, and visible from behind even in broad daylight.

A rearview mirror fixed on the left

The FQMHR requires a left-side mirror, positioned so that the driver can see behind him without turning around. Whether to avoid an unexpected overtake or to keep an eye on a teammate, it's an essential safety tool.

A speedometer

Uncommon on competition models, the speedometer is nevertheless becoming mandatory on federated trails . It allows you to respect the speed limits imposed by clubs (often 50 km/h), and to better manage your driving in sensitive areas such as road crossings or rest areas.

Ready to take on the trails?

The practice of off-road motocross is experiencing a meteoric rise in Quebec. These rules, sometimes perceived as restrictive, ultimately turn out to be valuable guarantees for a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

While the image of a dusty off-road rider evokes raw adventure, the FQMHR ensures that this passion is lived safely and within the rules. Because a successful summer is also one without pitfalls or fines.
