FEATURES :

• An engineered raised area with padding effectively reduces the forces transmitted to the collarbone, while a patented visor release system ensures the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact.

• The lower shell volume for sizes M, L, XL, and 2XL has been widened by about 3 %, making it easier to put on and take off the helmet. This increase in volume has also improved impact management, now reducing impact performance by 44 % compared to the regular-speed threshold.

• According to the new ECE 22.06 standard, the SM5 achieves a 44 % better regular-speed impact rating than the current 33 % figure, as well as a 32 % better low-speed impact rating and a 31 % better high-speed linear impact score compared to the prevailing standard.

• Multiple density inner liner to ensure the correct density in the correct area for enhanced impact absorption.

• Redesigned chin bar profile, where the base has been specifically sculpted to create a relief section, raised to clear the collarbone, with a new softer EPS liner that extends beyond the helmet shell itself and is covered by a more flexible rubber compound, thus reducing the risk of collarbone injuries.

• Maximized ventilation and excellent heat exchange thanks to multiple air inlets and exhaust ports.

• The ECE version of the SM5 helmet weighs 1,350 grams for a medium size, and 1,420 grams for the ECE DOT version with shield.

• The visor has been designed to direct air into the ports to enhance airflow.

• The SM5 is available in 2 versions : ECE R 22.06 and ECE R 22.06/DOT.

PROTECTION :

• The inner and outer surfaces are engineered to minimize the effects of oblique impacts. To help mitigate and counteract these rotational impact forces, Alpinestars has designed an exclusive technology by creating a low-friction surface on the inner surface of the EPS liner. For the ECE 22.06 standard, which now includes the rotational oblique impact rating, the SM5 scores 70 % under the new regulation.

MANUFACTURING :

• The lightweight outer shell is constructed from an advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic, with three anatomical shell sizes, plus three individual EPS inner liner sizes, combined with an inner lining and cheek padding, offering 6 unique sizes to ensure optimal fit and protection.
