FEATURES :

• A raised area with padding has been specially designed to effectively reduce the forces transmitted to the collarbone, while a patented visor release system ensures the visor detaches with the correct pre-determined amount of force, regardless of the angle of impact.

• Sizes M, L, XL and 2XL have been reworked with an approximately 3 % wider lower volume, making it easier to put on and take off the helmet. This increased volume also improves impact management, reducing transmitted forces by 44 % compared to the regular-speed threshold.

• For the new ECE 22.06 standard, the SM5 offers a 44 % improvement in regular-speed impact absorption compared to the current 33 %, as well as a 32 % improvement at low speed and a 31 % improvement at high speed compared to the prevailing standard.

• A multi-density inner padding ensures optimized shock absorption based on different impact zones.

• The chin bar has been redesigned with a new profile : its base area is specially sculpted to clear the collarbone, while the new softer EPS liner extends beyond the shell and is covered by a more flexible rubber compound, reducing the risk of collarbone injury.

• Maximized ventilation and excellent thermal transfer due to multiple air inlets and optimized exhaust ports.

• The ECE version of the SM5 helmet weighs 1,350 g in size M, while the ECE DOT version with visor weighs 1,420 g.

• The visor is designed to direct air into the vents for improved airflow.

• The SM5 is available in two versions : ECE R 22.06 and ECE R 22.06/DOT.

PROTECTION :

• The inner and outer surfaces are engineered to minimize the effects of oblique impacts. To counteract these rotational forces and mitigate their effects, Alpinestars has developed proprietary technology by integrating a low-friction surface inside the EPS padding. For the ECE 22.06 standard, which now includes rotational oblique impact ratings, the SM5 scores 70 % under the new regulation.
