• This lightweight helmet features a thermo-injected shell incorporating a special polymer blend reinforced with varying thickness levels, designed to provide an optimal combination of impact protection and lightness.
• The lightweight outer shell is made from technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic. It is available in three sizes (YS, YM and YL). The SM3 Youth weighs 1060 g (ECE) and 1170 g (DOT).
• Distinct shell versions for DOT and ECE requirements; the DOT-certified version of the inner shell is constructed with a composite fiber layer between the outer shell and EPS liner for maximum impact protection.
• The fit can be customized to the rider’s head with the helmet’s crown and cheek pads, which are available as spare parts in different thicknesses.
• YM and YL sizes share the same EPS size, allowing YM-size riders to initially purchase a YM helmet and later upgrade to YL as they grow by replacing the crown and cheek pads.
• The Youth Small size has a smaller EPS structure and can only be customized via the cheek pads. Extensive Alpinestars research has shown that children wearing a YS size are very small, typically aged 3 to 4 years, requiring a specially adapted helmet.

CONSTRUCTION :

• The multi-density inner liner ensures that the helmet has the right density in the right areas for improved impact absorption while helping to reduce overall weight.
• Inner and outer surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts.
• Alpinestars' patented low-friction coating is applied to the inner part of the main EPS liner to reduce rotational acceleration forces that may result from certain oblique impacts. This layer acts as a sliding plane, mimicking the brain’s low-friction cerebrospinal fluid, which is the body’s natural defense against oblique impacts.
• Maximum ventilation and high levels of heat transfer exchange thanks to 10 intake vents and 7 exhaust ports.
• The visor has been designed to direct air towards the vents to enhance airflow circulation.
• The patented visor release system ensures that the visor detaches with the correct predetermined force, effectively reducing the strain on the rider’s neck during an impact.
• The comfort liner is made from recycled materials to reduce the carbon footprint.
• Hydration tube channels are integrated into the helmet’s cheek pads for added convenience and performance.
• The soft textile chin strap measures 25 mm for optimal safety and comfort.

PROTECTION :

• To meet Alpinestars' new standards, the shell thickness and overall helmet structure have been optimized around the chin area for better impact performance.
